At the time, cardamom was considered an expensive and highly sought-after spice, and for Barbara Radziwiłł, its taste and aroma were associated with luxury and the grand feasts at the palace of Sigismund Augustus. Once she was crowned queen, cardamom began to be blended into the cosmetic fragrance oils used to maintain a pleasant aroma at the palace.
